it\u2019s by no means a fleeting pregnancy, especially when you take nature\u2019s shortest gestation periods into consideration!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Virginian possum, for instance, will give birth to their young after only 12 days, and a hamster will go into labor after only 16\u201323 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But enough with the generalities\u2026 let\u2019s dig into the nitty gritty with a periods amongst, not just species of deer, but between all families of animals and their various species, is <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/chapter\/10.1007\/978-1-349-03964-7_14\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the environment<\/a> in which they live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simply put, the longer the gestation period, the more time the fawn has to develop, very slender animals, you\u2019d think you\u2019d be able to spot a pregnant doe from a mile off, but, although they do change physically, they don\u2019t start \u201cshowing\u201d until deep into the third trimester, so it takes a trained eye to identify a mother-to-be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that in mind, let\u2019s get that eye of yours trained up!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what you\u2019re looking for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>A small-to-large bulging of the lower abdomen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Excessive grooming, i.e. licking of the fur, especially around the abdomen<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eating out in the open. When with fawn, mother does have to eat plenty of food to facilitate the development of their young. This might mean venturing outside what they consider safe grazing zones and is part of the reason they may exhibit enhanced alertness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other pregnant does.
